Tucked under Treen Cliff on Cornwall’s southern coast, Pedn Vounder Beach is a hidden gem perfect for a day of sun, sand, and sea. Famous for its clear tidal waters, golden sands, and dramatic cliffs, it’s recently gained attention for the fun of floating on rubber rings.
Using a rubber ring here lets us drift gently in shallow waters while taking in views of Logan Rock and surrounding cliffs. Every visit reminds us how simple pleasures can feel like little adventures.

Best Time to Visit

The ideal time to enjoy Pedn Vounder is late spring to early autumn (May–September). During these months, the weather is warm, the water is inviting, and the tides are easier to navigate. Visiting during low tide is crucial if we want to safely reach the beach via the coastal path from Porthcurno or Treen, and it also gives more beach area to explore. Early mornings or late afternoons are perfect for avoiding crowds while capturing the best light for photography.

Opening Hours and Costs

Pedn Vounder is a public beach, so there’s no entrance fee and it’s open all year round. Parking at nearby locations like Porthcurno or Treen is available but limited, with charges ranging from $5–$10 per day. Some paths are steep, so there’s no direct vehicle access to the beach itself—we need to be ready for a short hike down the cliffs.

How We Get There

There are two main ways to reach the beach:
1. Hiking from the Coastal Path: From Porthcurno, the path is about 0.75 miles (1.21 km) west, and from Treen, about 0.62 miles (1.00 km) north. The last section involves climbing down steep rocks—comfortable shoes are essential.
2. By Boat: Some local operators offer small boat trips to Pedn Vounder. Prices range from $15–$25 per person for a round trip. This option is great for families or those avoiding the cliff descent.

Where We Stay

Accommodation near Pedn Vounder is mainly in Porthcurno and nearby St. Levan villages. Options include:
- Guesthouses and B&Bs: Prices around $80–$150 per night, offering cozy rooms and home-cooked breakfast.
- Self-Catering Cottages: Around $120–$200 per night, ideal for groups or families.
- Camping: Small campgrounds near Treen offer $25–$40 per tent per night, perfect for a nature-focused experience.

Dining Options

While the beach itself has no restaurants, nearby Porthcurno has cafés and small eateries:
- Porthcurno Café: Light meals, sandwiches, and coffee, $10–$15 per person.
- The Logan Rock Inn: Traditional British meals, $15–$25 per dish, with seafood specialties.
- Packing a picnic is highly recommended if we want to stay on the beach and enjoy a full day without leaving.

Tips for Rubber Ring Fun

Using a rubber ring makes the beach experience unique, but safety is important:
- Start near the shore and stay aware of the tide and currents.
- Bring water shoes for climbing rocks and a waterproof bag for valuables.
- Inflating the ring beforehand saves time.
- A bright-colored ring is easier to spot in the water.
- Don’t go too far from the sandbanks, as the currents can get strong.

Other Activities

Aside from floating, we can explore hidden coves along the coast, hike the cliffs for panoramic views, and watch seabirds and wildflowers along the cliffs. Photography, shell collecting, or just relaxing on the sand are all rewarding ways to enjoy the beach.
