Clearing Breakouts?

Few things are more frustrating than a sudden breakout, especially when you feel like you’ve been treating your skin well.
For me, hormonal acne is the main culprit. I can usually predict my cycle just by noticing breakouts along my chin and jawline. While I’m definitely not a professional (and a dermatologist’s advice should always come first), these are the steps and products I personally reach for whenever a breakout shows up.

1. Pimple Patches Are a Non-Negotiable

Pimple patches like the real beauty miracle patch are my first line of defense, as soon as I notice a blemish forming, I place one on top. It helps keep the area protected, reduces the urge to touch or pick, and minimizes the chance of scarring. Think of it as damage control in patch form.

2. Deep Cleansing Before My Cycle

Right before my period, I like to be proactive. This is when I reach for a deep pore-cleansing mask, like the one from Kiehl’s. It helps draw out impurities and gives my skin a fresh start before hormonal changes kick in.

3. Targeted Spot Treatment for Stubborn Pimples

When a breakout feels extra angry or painful, I bring out a stronger spot treatment. The Kiehl’s acne treatment is one I usually save for nighttime since active ingredients can be a bit harsh during the day. By morning, the blemish often looks calmer and less inflamed.

4. Barrier Support Is Key

No matter what my skin is doing, I never skip barrier care. The COSRX Snail Mucin is a constant in my routine. It layers beautifully with other products, helps seal in hydration, and in my experience — supports healing when my skin is feeling irritated or stressed.

5. Overnight Repair with Extra Hydration

At night, I go all in on moisture. I layer my regular moisturizer with a sleeping mask, like the one from Youth To The People. This gives my skin uninterrupted time to recover while I sleep, which makes a noticeable difference by morning.
Breakouts can feel discouraging, but a calm, consistent routine can help keep things under control. For me, it’s all about protecting the skin, treating blemishes gently, and focusing on repair rather than overdoing it. Everyone’s skin is different, but these steps have helped me navigate hormonal breakouts with a little more confidence.
