One of the hardest parts of building a skincare routine is choosing between products that seem almost identical.
Similar claims, similar textures, similar results—so how do you know which one is actually right for you? Over the past few years, I’ve rotated through three very similar face creams, and after plenty of trial and error, I’ve finally landed on a clear favorite.

1. First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream (Grapefruit)

This was my go-to for a long time, especially because I could often find it at a great discount. At first, it worked beautifully and kept my skin feeling comfortable and hydrated. However, as my allergies became more severe, my skin grew increasingly sensitive. Over time, this cream started to cause irritation, which ultimately led me to stop using it on my face.

2. CeraVe Moisturizing Cream – The Sensitive Skin Hero

During a particularly bad allergic flare-up—complete with hives—this was the product my dermatologist recommended. It’s easily the most affordable option of the three and incredibly gentle, making it ideal for sensitive or compromised skin.

3. Kiehl’s Ultra Face Cream – The Perfect Balance

By now, it’s no secret that this one is my holy grail. While it’s the most expensive of the three, it strikes the perfect balance between hydration and lightweight comfort. It moisturizes thoroughly without feeling heavy or greasy, which makes it ideal for my oily yet sensitive skin. For me, it sits right in the middle of the other two—effective, comfortable, and reliable.
Each of these creams serves a purpose, depending on your skin type and needs. If you’re highly sensitive, one may be better suited for flare-ups; if you’re oily, finding the right texture is key. After years of testing, Kiehl’s has earned its place as my top choice—but the best product is always the one that works for your skin.
